Exelis has won a $15.3 million contract from the U.S. Navy to provide sustainment and redesign support for the ALQ-99 tactical jamming system used by the service’s EA-6B Prowler and EA-18G Growler aircraft.
The U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center tasked Exelis to redesign three components of the jammer’s universal exciter upgrade shop-replaceable assembly, the company said Monday.
The contract includes the upgrade to field-programmable electronic components and qualification testing to boost the ALQ-99 platform’s service life, adaptability and reliability.
“The ALQ-99 is expected to continue supporting the Navy’s electronic attack mission for several years until a next-generation solution is fielded,” said Mitch Friedman, vice president and general manager of Exelis’ integrated electronic warfare systems business.
Exelis said the government of Australia has also placed an order for the ALQ-99 under a foreign military sale contract that runs through June 2017.
