Lockheed Martin and Illumina have partnered to jointly develop genomics services in an effort to deliver personalized healthcare to the public.

Lockheed will combine its information systems and integration resources with Illumina’s genetic sequencing tools in the project that aims to help countries consolidate genomics into their national health systems, Lockheed said Monday.

“We envision the advantages of early national adoption for countries across the globe, applying clinical decision support applications that can improve health and healthcare,” said Horace Blackman, vice president of health and life sciences at Lockheed.

“Genomics is enabling a fundamental transformation of health care.”

Jay Flatley, CEO of Illumina, added that the company will collaborate with Lockheed and global healthcare leaders “to realize the full potential of nation-scale sequencing.”
