Mitre Corp. has released a new simulation tool that is designed to help analyze airport capacity.
The runwaySimulator has been turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration following the development phase under the company’s research and development program, Mitre said Tuesday.
Mitre used the tool to estimate arrivals and departures at major U.S. airports for the FAA.
The simulation model is designed to help researchers assess the impact of operational changes and identify alternative ways to improve runway operations.
The Transportation Research Board tested the tool and the FAA is rolling out the model to aviation and airport planning organizations.
