A Lockheed Martin-built industrial exoskeleton technology has received Icon Magazine’s Product Design of the Year award.
The Fortis suit also won a gold award in the Spark Design & Architecture Awards program and is included on CNN Money’s annual list of the 36 coolest gadgets, Lockheed said Friday.
The company built the technology with the goal of helping wearers manage the weight of heavy equipment.
“To avoid restricting an operator, the Fortis exoskeleton was designed to be lightweight and sleek, and we are honored that our design is being recognized,” said Trish Aelker, a program manager at Lockheed’s missiles and fire control business.
The U.S. Navy plans to test and evaluate the Lockheed technology for shipyard use.
