A Lockheed Martin-led contracting team has met its goal of producing and delivering 36 F-35 fighter jets this year.
Lockheed provided a total of 34 F-35A, F-35B and F-35C planes to the U.S. Defense Department and 2 F-35As to the Royal Australian Air Force during 2014, the company said Monday.
The 36th aircraft is for the U.S. Marine Corps and designed for the branch’s pilot training program.
Lt. Gen. Christopher Bogdan, head of the F-35 Joint Program Office, said the contractors work to build 300,000 aircraft parts at domestic and international facilities.
Lockheed and its partners have built 109 operational F-35s for defense customers to date.
