Kevin Coleman, formerly chief strategist at Netscape and previously a management consultant at Deloitte, has called on organizations to form a cyber incident response team for on-demand action on data breaches.
Coleman wrote in a commentary for Fedscoop senior executives within organizations must also begin to turn their focus on data breach response strategies in order to mitigate the costs and consequences of these incidents.
Coleman says legal, communications, public relations, operations, information technology and finance departments play major roles in work to address cyber incidents and data breaches.
“Experienced professional program and project managers are beginning to be put in place to manage the complexity of these and related initiatives, and hopefully reduce the overall risk,” he said.
“The biggest challenge we all face at this point is the limited number of project managers who have actual experience dealing with the challenges of a cyber incident or data breach,” Coleman added.
