IBM Corp. has been awarded a $6.8 million contract with the Department of Veterans Affairs to collect and analyze electronic health records and medical literature.
The company will search and present medical records using its Watson cognitive technology under the two-year pilot research, VA said Monday.
Carolyn Clancy, VA interim undersecretary for health, said the pilot study aims to help physicians find information needed to care for their patients with Watson.
“A tool that can help a clinician quickly collect, combine, and present information will allow them to spend more time listening and interacting with the veteran,†Clancy added.
VA will assess how the technology helps physicians make clinical decisions based on evidence from realistic simulations.
