Mark Kontos serves as senior vice president, chief financial officer, treasurer and an executive council member at MITRE Corp., which he first joined in 2005.
He manages the nonprofit organization’s financial functions and has directed the development, construction and financing for a fourth building at MITRE’s McLean, Virginia headquarters in a push to place its workforce at a single campus.
Kontos also directed the development and construction of a MITRE laboratory in Bedford, Massachusetts.
Other items on his agenda have included work on the organization’s planning and budgeting process, financial information management systems, business processes, business intelligence functions, financial analytics, performance metrics and decision support tools.
Prior to MITRE, he served as SVP and CFO at Battelle and also chaired the  finance/audit/risk management committees of the Brookhaven and Oak Ridge National Laboratories while at the Columbus, Ohio-based science organization.
Kontos is also a former VP and CFO of AK Steel Corp. and a 15-year veteran of Citibank/Citigroup, where he served as VP of the World Corporation Group and VP of institutional recovery management.
He received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Beloit College and his M.B.A. in finance and international business from the University of Chicago.
