Boeing has completed a certification baseline review of NASA‘s human space transportation systems as part of a series of preparations for crewed missions to the International Space Station.
NASA approved the review to validate the baseline design of the Crew Space Transportation-100 spacecraft, United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket and related components, NASA said Dec. 1.
“It“™s important for us to set a robust plan for achieving certification upfront. It“™s crucial for us to achieve our 2017 goal, and the plan we“™ve put in place will get us there,” said John Mulholland, Boeing commercial crew program manager.
Boeing described how the CST-100 would connect with ISS and the training program NASA astronauts would undergo to fly the spacecraft in orbit.
The baseline review is the first of a series of milestones for CST-100 and NASA plans to perform flight tests from Florida“™s Space Coast to certify Boeing“™s human space transportation system for transporting NASA astronauts to ISS.
