Raytheon and the U.S. Navy have conducted flight tests on a prototype airborne electronic warfare system at the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake in California.
The Next Generation Jammer, which features an active electronically scanned array radar and digital receiver and techniques generator, was fitted onto a Gulfstream business jet, Raytheon said Wednesday.
Travis Slocumb, vice president of electronic warfare systems at Raytheon’s space and airborne systems segment, said the flight tests aim to demonstrate the system’s functions against enemy air defense radars.
The Navy conducts these tests to mitigate potential risk in the NGJ program’s engineering, manufacturing and development phase, Raytheon said.
