OrionPreparations for the Lockheed Martin-built Orion spacecraft’s December maiden flight from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station will begin with its rollout from NASA’s Launch Abort System Facility on Nov. 10.

The facility at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida currently houses the aircraft designed for manned exploration of deep space.

NASA said Thursday it has planned the six-hour move to the Space Launch Complex 37 launch pad to start at 8:00 p.m.

A news briefing at LASF is scheduled hours ahead of the rollout, to be led by directors Robert Cabana of the Kennedy Space Center and Ellen Ochoa of the Johnson Space Center.

Orion program manager Mark Geyer and Mike Hawes, director of human space flight programs at Lockheed Martin Space Systems, are also slated to participate.
