Lockheed Martin has delivered the 200th MH-60R maritime helicopter to the U.S. Navy with the goal of supporting the branch’s surface and submarine warfare operations.
Sikorsky manufactured the Romeo multirole helicopter and Lockheed built the vehicle’s sensor technology and other mission systems, Lockheed said Thursday.
The Navy’s MH-60R fleet has recorded more than 250,000 flight hours to date, according to Lockheed.
“We are proud to continue supporting the U.S. Navy by delivering a multi-role aircraft with a game-changing sensor suite that shifts the advantage from the submarine to the helicopter,†said Dan Spoor, vice president of aviation and unmanned systems at Lockheed’s mission systems and training business.
MH-60Rs are designed with a modular architecture for configuring aircraft weapons based on specific missions and a technology intended to provide aircrew with onboard and offboard sensor data.
Lockheed and Sikorsky’s partnership has also handed Australia’s fifth MH-60R helicopter and has started production of aircraft for Denmark.
The U.S. Navy seeks to acquire up to 291 Romeo helicopters, according to Lockheed.
