IBM has released a new version of its cloud-based application development and delivery platform in an effort to help developers build applications around their data.

The updated, single-tenant version of Bluemix works to give organizations control over where data is stored, IBM said Thursday.

“With Bluemix Dedicated now available in our global cloud center network, IBM is adding another on-ramp to the cloud for developers to move quickly and innovate but do so in a model that maintains the necessary levels of security and control,” said Steve Robinson, general manager of IBM cloud platform services.

IBM also unveiled a private application programming interface catalog on Bluemix to help developers access their on-premise data.

The new Bluemix platform has built-in private network and workload visibility features from a SoftLayer cloud center.

The service also incorporates Cloudant’s database-as-a-service, data caching and runtimes for developers to run their apps using their preferred coding language.
