General Dynamics EbizGeneral Dynamics and a subsidiary of Singapore Technologies Kinetics have partnered to build an air burst ammunition for U.S. military clients.

Advanced Material Engineering and General Dynamics will collaborate to integrate a time-based fuse technology into the 40mm airburst to program the detonation time, General Dynamics said Wednesday.

“By integrating programmable ammunition with innovative products, such as our next-generation fire control system, we can provide the warfighter with versatility and overmatch capability that is fully interoperable with our weapon systems currently in service,” said Tim McAuliffe, a vice president and general manager at General Dynamics.

The ammunition is also designed for firing from existing U.S. Army grenade launchers.

General Dynamics said warfighters will be able to program the ammunition’s detonation time at a specific distance.
