Neel Mehta
Mark T. Lewellyn is national security analysis department chief at the Applied Physics Laboratory of Johns Hopkins University.
He heads APL work on the evaluation of systems, concepts and technologies and their impact on national security policy and joint force effectiveness, helping provide actionable insights for decision-makers in government.
Lewellyn specializes in naval systems analysis, defense acquisition analysis of alternatives processes, and force structure and troop rebalancing analyses.
Prior to APL, Lewellyn spent more than 30 years with the Center of Naval Analyses, where he served as technology and acquisition studies lead, and as scientific advisor to Navy and Marine officers on new systems development and acquisition.
He is the recipient of a Navy award for meritorious public service and was with the Defense Science Board Task Force in 2010, providing insight on early intercept ballistic missile defense.
Lewellyn has a Ph.D. in chemistry from the University of California in Berkeley.
He earned his M.Sc. on chemical spectroscopy under the Fulbright program at the University of East Anglia, and graduated summa cum laude with a chemistry degree at Hamline University.
