Cubic‘s transportation systems business has agreed to integrate its payment processing technology into Calgary’s parking service in an effort to help users manage their transportation account.
The Calgary Parking Authority and Cubic intend for the partnership to help customers process parking and transit payments with a common smart card or mobile application, Cubic said Monday.
“Users already engaged with Cubic smart card and mobile technologies will be able to extend their use as part of a multimodal integrated experience for trip planning, real time passenger information, payment for transit and parking, and participation in real-time traveler information and rewards programs,” said David deKozan, a Cubic vice president.
The Canadian authority designed the ParkPlus system to combine license plate recognition, solar-powered smart pay meters and mobile devices for parking management operations.
The system was also developed to help drivers register their license plates with their payment account or pay at the meter.
Law enforcement officers will also be able to issue tickets by identifying license plate owners who violate parking rules, Cubic says.
