Space Systems/Loral has launched a new satellite built for Intelsat into space for an initiative to provide distribution services in South America and the Caribbean regions.
The Intelsat 30 satellite also achieved post-launch maneuvering in orbit after its launch on board Ariane 5 from the European Spaceport in the French Guiana, SSL said Friday.
SSL designed the Intelsat 30 based on the 1300 platform to support different types of applications such as electric propulsion.
“We were honored and privileged to have Intelsat’s trust to design and build this powerful satellite,” said John Celli, president of SSL.
The 20-kilowatt class Ku- and C-band spacecraft deployed its solar arrays and fired its main thruster to maneuver into geosynchronous orbit.
DIRECTV Latin America will use the Ku-band payload for its South America and Caribbean distribution operations.
