Northrop Grumman has exhibited an integrated avionics system built to help develop configurable aircraft in the future.
The company showcased its newest avionics equipment and highlighted other C4ISR initiatives during a National Press Club briefing, Northrop said Wednesday.
Jeffrey Palombo, vice president and general manager of Northrop’s land and self protection systems division, said airplanes need open architecture design of sensors, surveillance equipment and situational awareness systems in order to address threats.
“Not only is there tremendous added value when you can deliver platform-agnostic avionics across multiple platforms, but when you incorporate open architecture into the design, you can insert those capabilities much quicker than in the past,” Palombo added.
He demonstrated the functions of the UH-60V Black Hawk digital cockpit, which features a partitioned, modular operational flight program.
Northrop designed the avionics system to comply with the Future Airborne Capability Environment standard.
