Lockheed Martin CEO Marillyn Hewson has said the company can help with security, growth and sustainability initiatives to maintain the partnership and collaboration between the U.S. and Japan.

“[It] is our shared values, our collaboration and our commitment to each other that will allow us to overcome these challenges successfully,” she said in her U.S.-Japan Council conference keynote address published Friday.

She said the two countries must continue working together to build on the security, growth and sustainability imperatives as they face cyber, political, defense and other threats.

Hewson outlined how the company supports Japan’s programs on defense and security policies; sharing of technology, knowledge and talent; and innovation aims.

Lockheed holds a contract to provide the Japanese military with 42 F-35 aircraft and works with local industry and government customers in cybersecurity, she said.

She also discussed the $290 billion in products and services traded between the U.S. and Japan, education exchange programs such as the Council’s TOMODACHI initiative and Lockheed’s scholarship program with the Bridging Foundation to support shared growth.

Lockheed also works on sustainable technology areas such as ocean thermal energy conversion and sustainable fisheries, Hewson said.
