Cubic Transporation Systems has received a $9 million contract to update hardware and software on the electronic card ticketing system for public transit services within Los Angeles County.
The company will intergrate a technology for securing consumers’ payment card information into the county’s TAP automated fare collection system, Cubic said Wednesday.
“Today, merchants accepting credit and debit cards are required by their acquiring banks to comply with Payment Card Industry 3.0 Data Security Standards,†said Janet Koenig, director of central systems at Cubic Transportation Systems.
Cubic Payment Application is designed to comply with PA DSS and will work as a gateway to protect Los Angeles County commuters who pay fares with payment cards.
LA County’s transportation agency also asked the company to upgrade TAP readers at more than 400 vending machines across the county, as well as replace more than 20 servers designed to support the e-ticketing platform.
Cubic won a contract in 2002 to build the TAP infrastructure and support TAP-enabled devices.
