Industry has unveiled an Internet of Things reference model to help define the technology, identify its challenges and standardize IoT terminology for developers, chief information officers and IT leaders.
The Internet of Things World Forum Steering Committee drafted the framework, unwrapped at this week’s Cisco-hosted IoTWF in Chicago, in a bid to push IoT adoption and deployment, Cisco said Tuesday.
IoTWF leaders also announced the creation of a talent consortium designed to provide industry-specific education and skills training for future IoT engineers and leaders.
Representatives from Intel, Rockwell Automation and other industry players were slated to provide keynote speeches at this year’s IoTWF, which had its focus on real-life deployments of IoT solutions in government and private sectors.
“The Internet of Everything is a global industry phenomenon where the intelligent networked connections between people, process, data and things make networked connections more relevant and valuable than ever before,†said Wim Elfrink, executive vice president for industry solutions and chief globalization officer at Cisco.
“The IoTWF is an essential forum for visionaries and leaders to discuss current and future opportunities, and ultimately set an agenda and blueprint for the future.”
