Globecomm has built and deployed ground-based satellite communications terminals for a European company that is exploring for oil and natural gas in Iraq.
The client will use Globecomm’s very small aperture terminal network to help oil exploration crews access data and voice communications in the field, the satcom technology firm said Wednesday.
Globecomm says the 158-megabyte VSAT technology is designed to operate with a terrestrial microwave relay link system and a Cisco-made call processing platform that connects to Globecomm’s teleport in the Netherlands.
The U.S. satcom company worked with an Iraqi telecommunications firm to install the VSAT terminals at the customer’s oil exploration sites.
