VAMPIREBooz Allen Hamilton has developed a new device for law enforcement and military personnel to analyze fingerprints and other forensics analysis in the field as they conduct investigations.

VAMPIRE is built to digitally capture fingerprint images without the use of lifting tape and compare evidence to an onboard watch list in order to identify both matches and potential leads, Booz Allen said Thursday.

The firm will demonstrate VAMPIRE Sunday at the International Association of Chiefs of Police Conference and Law Enforcement Education and Technology Exposition in Orlando, Florida.

“In today’s forensic environment, whether in a military, humanitarian, homeland security or law enforcement scenario, every second counts,” said Adam Weiner, a Booz Allen principal.

“The VAMPIRE device was developed by Booz Allen’s rapid prototyping team, which quickly puts agile solutions into the field and is an important component of the firm’s Strategic Innovation Group.”

Karen Dahut, a Booz Allen executive vice president, spoke to ExecutiveBiz in October 2013 to discuss the SIG group’s work to “transform… ideas into original innovations that create value for our clients” (click here to read the full interview).

Booz Allen designed VAMPIRE as a ruggedized product that is similar in size to many smartphones and to be usable by operators with minimal specialized training in fingerprint processing.

“By putting the VAMPIRE device in the hands of investigators, we can greatly reduce the time it takes to get valuable forensic information that could break open a case,” Weiner said.
