IBM has won a contract to consolidate traffic data in Sao Paulo using analytics to provide ARTESP, the Brazilian city’s public transportation regulatory agency, with real-time insights on its highways.
The project will use IBM Intelligent Transportation software to form an information control center that will gather data from the local highway administrators that cover nearly 4,000 miles of state roads, IBM said Monday.
According to the company, the control center will be designed to eventually replace the physical collection of data that administrators traditionally conduct on site, eliminating inconsistencies in incident assessments with verifiable information.
“The push for a truly intelligent transportation system in Sao Paulo is an unprecedented project for Brazil,†said Eric-Mark Huitema, global smarter transportation leader at IBM Smarter Cities.
“ARTESP is using [this deluge of data] to their advantage, engaging powerful analytics to glean insights from the terabytes upon terabytes of traffic data that will ultimately improve transportation for Brazilian citizens,†he added.
