AÂ Lockheed Martin team has completed its work to couple theÂ large system and propulsion modules for theÂ National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration‘sÂ Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite-R series.
The A2100-based satellite’s system module comprises the command and data handling, communication and electrical powerÂ subsystems,Â Lockheed said Thursday.
The propulsion core isÂ the structural backbone of the GOES-R satellite and the propulsion subsystem is built to help maneuverÂ the satellite during on-orbit repositioning.
The GOES-R series program is set for functional andÂ environmental testing phases in the fall after installationÂ ofÂ the six weather and solar-monitoring instruments.
Scheduled for launch in 2016, the satellite will work to provide weather products toÂ Western Hemisphere users.
