Lockheed Martin and NASA have transferred the Orion spacecraft to the agency’s launch abort system facility at Kennedy Space Center.
The company will integrate Orion with the launch abort system after Lockheed completes the ammonia, hydrazine and high pressure helium fueling of the spacecraft, the company said Monday.
“Once the launch abort system is integrated and functional testing concludes, the spacecraft is considered done,†said Michael Hawes, Lockheed’s Orion program manager.
“Then in November we’ll integrate to the rocket, which is rolling out to the launch pad today,” he added.
Orion is designed for crew safety and comprises an attitude control, a jettison and abort motors.
The spacecraft’s nominal functions will go through a series of tests on the LAS during the first Exploration Flight Test.
