Neel Mehta
John Roberti serves as vice president of government relations and strategy at Cubic Corp., a role he moved into after service as vice president of Washington operations for the company’s defense systems segment.
Roberti, a retired Navy rear admiral, holds more than 30 years of experience in the defense sector and concluded his military career with service as deputy director for joint strategic planning at the Joint Staff.
His shore duty assignments for the Navy have included assistant chief of naval operations/vice chief of naval operations decision coordinator for the general planning and programming division, as well as aviation program analyst for helicopter and unmanned aerial vehicle programs.
He also served as a politico-military planner for the Joint Staff’s directorate for strategic plans and policy, desk officer in Bosnia-Herzegovina, executive assistant and naval aide to the assistant navy secretary for financial management, senior military assistance to the Defense Department‘s comptroller and naval aide to the navy undersecretary.
Additional shore duty roles have included chief of the deployable training team and joint training division for Joint Forces Command’s Joint Warfighting Center, where he trained joint task force and joint force commanders, as well as regional combatant commander battle staffs on joint and combined operations and exercises directed by the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
Sea duty assignments have included service as a surface warfare officer and engineering officer of the watch on the USS Iwo Jima; as an SH-2F pilot on the USS Comte De Grasse, USS Aubrey Fitch and USS Jack Williams; commanding officer of HSL-42 Proud Warriors that flew the SH-60B; and three tours on the USS Nassau as an air boss, executive officer and commanding officer.
Roberti was commissioned as an ensign through the Naval ROTC program and graduated from Penn State University.
He also completed a master’s degree in national security and strategic studies at the Naval War College’s College of Naval Command and Staff and served as U.S. representative to the Naval Staff College’s class 45 program for mid-grade international naval officers.
