TeleCommunication Systems and NextNav have partnered to demonstrate an indoor positioning technology they believe help emergency responders locate 911 mobile phone callers who are inside a building.
NextNav will exhibit its Metropolitan Beacon System in conjunction with TCS’ 911 technology at this week’s Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials conference in New Orleans, TCS said Friday.
The companies intend for the NextNav technology to transmit a caller’s location data to a public safety answering point in the event of an emergency.
“Together, we offer this technical approach as one solution to the challenge of improved indoor location information in emergency situations,” said Kent Hellebust, vice president of TCS’ safety and security group.
NextNav’s MBS platform is deployed like a cellular network and works to determine the latitude and longtitude coordinates of a wireless caller, according to TCS.
