Huntington Ingalls Industries hosted Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Mark Warner at the company’s Newport News Shipbuilding facility this week in Virginia to showcase the company’s manufacturing and defense supply work.
The company said Wednesday the visit also included a tour of HII’s submarine construction plant, where the PCU John Warner submarine is currently under construction.
“We always welcome the opportunity to host our congressional partners so they can see first-hand the important work we are doing here, thanks to their continued support,” said Matt Mulherin, president of Newport News Shipbuilding.
Mikulski is chairperson of the Senate Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for the allocation of funds for defense-related programs such as the refueling of the USS George Washington aircraft carrier.
