Raytheon executive Scott Whatmough expects the company to complete qualification testing on the Family of Advanced Beyond Line of Sight Terminals for the U.S. Air Force by the end of this year, Defense News reported Friday.
Whatmough, president and general manager for integrated communication systems at Raytheon, said the company’s workforce has worked on the FAB-T program over the last 30 years.
Aaron Mehta reports that the company plans to build the command post systems in Largo, Florida as it awaits a probable contract for the airborne terminals after the Air Force dropped them from the order due to budget constraints.
Raytheon won the $298 million contract in June for 84 FAB-T terminals to enable AEHF satellite communications designed for Air Force ground systems and E-4 and E-6 fleets, the report said.
According to Whatmough, the company built similar communication systems for the U.S. Navy and U.S. Army.
