Raytheon has been awarded a $130 million contract to help the Massachusetts Department of Transportation replace the state’s cash tolling systems with an electronic platform.
The company and its partners will build and install an All Electronic Tolling System designed to allow vehicles with EZ-Pass tags to drive through Massachusetts toll stations without stopping, Raytheon said Wednesday.
According to Raytheon, the AETS will have an image-based tolling feature for issuing invoices to non-electronic pass holders.
“Hundreds of thousands of drivers will benefit from faster toll booth transactions and fewer lane closures, including thousands of Massachusetts-based Raytheon employees,” said Bob Delorge, vice president of Raytheon’s C4I systems business.
Installation work is scheduled to occur from April to December 2015.
Raytheon’s team members on the e-toll project include SPS New England, CDM Smith and Liddell Brothers.
