northrop-Grumman_BLUENorthrop Grumman has completed a six-week capabilities test of its Common Infrared Countermeasures system for the U.S. Army‘s UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters, wherein the system operated under aircraft flight and staged combat environments.

The company said Thursday the laser-based system, which was developed with Selex ES and Daylight Solutions, uses open architecture to interoperate with aircraft missile warning systems.

Jeffrey Palombo, vice president and general manager of Northrop’s land and self-protection systems division, said the company also conducted a lab testing demonstration of the directional infrared countermeasures system.

The flight test was led by the Redstone Test Center at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama.
