DigitalGlobe has reached the initial operational capability status for its WorldView-3 imagery satellite after the company completed the focusing stage of the spacecraft.

The company on Tuesday released sample images of several areas in Madrid, Spain to show several usage cases for DigitalGlobe customers.

“We are delighted that even in the early stages of calibration and commissioning WorldView-3 is revealing new insights that will enable customers to address some of the most pressing global challenges,” said Jeff Tarr, CEO of DigitalGlobe.

“WorldView-3 performance is exceeding our expectations and is a great step forward in helping our customers make critical decisions with confidence as they save lives, resources and time,” he added.

The company designed WorldView-3 to help government customers plan maintenance projects for highway networks and manage natural resources using the 30-cm super-spectral imagery, according to the company.

Civil aviation clients will also have full view of on-ground aircraft in order to identify their features and assess their conditions through WorldView-3, DigitalGlobe says.

DigitalGlobe is set to start delivery of WorldView-3 satellite imagery to customers on February 21, 2015.
