David Hamilton: Wyoming Adopts Xerox Tech to Manage ER Visits, Medicaid Costs

David Hamilton, group president for government healthcare solutions at Xerox, said the company is using health information technology and data analysis to help Wyoming improve the state’s patient care plans.

“We’re providing advice and support that help members make decisions for a healthy lifestyle,” Hamilton said Thursday.

“By ensuring they receive healthcare in the setting best suited to their level of need, we’re also helping the state reduce Medicaid costs,” he added.

Xerox said data sets can include when patients had their last checkup, if they were following up on their medication or doctor’s visits, or how often they visited the emergency room.

The company noted a Wyoming Medicaid report of a per member per month cost drop of 20.44 percent from October 2012 to September 2013, compared to the same period the prior years because of fewer ER visits.

“Xerox’s care management program enables us to support our patients (by helping people make informed decisions about their healthcare)… and it reduces unnecessary and costly ER visits,” said Dr. James F. Bush, medical director for the Wyoming Department of Health.
