Raytheon logo_EbizRaytheon‘s Next-Generation Jammer has completed a system readiness review, with most of the component technologies at Technology Readiness Level 6 or above, and is preparing for initial flight testing in September, Breaking Defense reported Monday.

Rick Yuse, program manager for the electronic warfare system at Raytheon, has confirmed the program’s status as the company aims to achieve initial operational capability by early 2018, Colin Clark reports.

Yuse said the system includes both offensive and defensive capabilities and technologies such as an active electronically scanned radar array with communications and signals intelligence features, the report said.

Clark writes the U.S. Navy will install the jammer on the EA-18 Growler aircraft or on the Unmanned Carrier-Launched Airborne Surveillance and Strike platform.

According to Yuse, the system can be integrated into a new aircraft with few modifications needed.
