redhat logoRed Hat has launched the Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 5, the latest enterprise release of the company’s cloud platform offering that uses the OpenStack Icehouse open source technology.

The company said Tuesday the platform comes with a three-year support life cycle from its global support services team and partner ecosystem and works to integrate with VMware infrastructure for networking, storage, management and virtualization.

Red Hat added that OpenStack Platform 5 focuses on workload placement across the cloud depending on need, supports new U.S. and U.K. cryptographic security requirements and uses a modular plugin architecture for interoperability with other networking solutions.

“We see momentum behind OpenStack as a private cloud platform of choice from enterprise customers and service providers alike,” said Radhesh Balakrishnan, general manager for virtualization and OpenStack at Red Hat.

OpenStack Platform 5 will be designed to be engineered with both Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7.

OpenStack Platform 5 also include a technology preview of the OpenStack data processing service Sahara, Red Hat said.
