Lockheed Martin has scheduled the delivery the third Mobile User Objective System satellite to the U.S. Navy for 2014 following the completion of environmental testing.
The MUOS satellite went through simulated hot and cold temperature testing in a vacuum at Lockheed’s Dual Entry Large Thermal Altitude chamber, Lockheed said Thursday.
“We are committed to quality, and our rigorous environmental testing regimen ensures this system is ready for the harsh environments of space,†said Iris Bombelyn, vice president of narrowband communications at Lockheed.
“We are on track for delivering the third MUOS satellite to the Navy this year,†added Bombelyn.
Lockheed designed the MUOS satellite to carry a wideband code division multiple access payload.
The Navy is scheduled to launch the third MUOS in January 2015.
