The Air Force National Capital Region is undertaking the second phase in the four-phase deployment of the AFNCR Shared Computing Environment with support from prime contractor Lockheed Martin, GCN reported Tuesday.
William Jackson writes the SCE program, which provided AFNCR with a unified IT infrastructure and shared enterprise services, is focused on load balancing during the second deployment phase.
According to the report, after generating cost and energy savings and capacity efficiency during the first phase, AFNCR expects to reduce the required number of system administrators from 20 to five and achieve administrative efficiency.
The second phase is scheduled for completion in October and will be followed by the third phase for hyper convergence and the final phase for software-defined networking and storage.
The SCE contract was awarded in 2012 to Lockheed, which provided AFNCR with information services, communications and user support.
Other partners in the SCE program include Cisco, Microsoft and VMware.
