solar powerExelon has signed an equity financing agreement for Bloom Energy-built fuel cell systems that would provide 21 megawatts of energy for 75 commercial sites in four U.S. states.

The energy firm said Tuesday it will back Bloom Energy projects in California, New York, Connecticut and New Jersey through a service that enables companies to buy power from fuel cells made by Bloom Energy.

AT&T has ordered Bloom Energy fuel cells to power nine of the telecommunication company’s facilities.

“This partnership with Bloom Energy is an extension of our Constellation business, and we are committed to meeting the growing demand for distributed generation with Bloom Energy’s clean, reliable, non-intermittent power solution,” said Chris Crane, Exelon president and CEO.

The alliance expects to complete fuel cell installations over the next year.

Bloom Energy’s power generation technology is designed to employ an electrochemical process to reduce carbon footprint, according to Exelon.
