A non-profit subsidiary of Battelle has received at least $2 million from the state of Ohio’s Straight A Fund program to manage education and learning networks centered on science, technology, engineering and math.
“We believe STEM education is the best way for children to develop the knowledge and skills they need to succeed,” Aimee Kennedy, Battelle’s vice president of education, STEM learning and philanthropy, said Thursday.
BattelleEd, a 501c3 company, has also partnered with several Ohio education organizations whose proposals have won Straight A Fund grants totaling an estimated $28 million.
The $14 million “College Ready Ohio” proposal by the Education Service Center of Central Ohio, Ohio State University, Geauga County Educational Service Center, BattelleEd and schools in the covered districts focuses on online dual enrollment courses, resources and training for both students and teachers.
The $8 million proposal by the Fairfield County Educational Service Center, BattelleEd and schools in the covered districts calls for a STEM education center for 300 at-risk local youth.
The $5 million proposal by the Geauga County Educational Service Center, BattelleEd and schools in the covered districts pushes for a central STEM school and satellite STEM programs in four schools.
