Urban Insights Associates has formed a new consulting practice that will work to help transit agencies leverage big data and analytic tools to improve commuter service.
The Cubic Transportation Systems subsidiary intends to collaborate with industry to manage urban transportation efficiency by harnessing an Apache Hadoop-based data management platform, Urban Insights said Monday.
“One of the biggest challenges facing the global transportation industry today is the massive amounts of rich data being gathered but underutilized by urban transportation enterprises,” said Wade Rosado, director of analytics at Urban Insights.
Rosado added the business’ predictive analytics methods and tools are designed to help agencies identify trends in cities’ transit operations and factors that influence travelers’ choices.
Urban Insights intends for Hadoop technology to help clients manage huge volumes of transportation data as well as gain valuable new business insights.
