Lockheed Martin BlueLockheed Martin says it is close to completing a cloud pilot initiative that is intended to provide a hosting platform for the U.S. Air Force’s portal and mission applications.

The company has been working under the Global Combat Support System – Air Force program to develop the hybrid cloud environment that will work with existing services, Lockheed Martin said Tuesday.

That cloud platform is intended to fulfill on-demand service requests by migrating mission applications in compliance with the Joint Information Environment program.

“Migrating to a cloud-based environment introduces on-demand service requests and enables the warfighter to bring the capability to the frontlines,” said Angela Heise, vice president of enterprise IT services at Lockheed’s IS&GS business.

The GCSS-AF cloud pilot is scheduled to complete in July 2014.

Lockheed and the Air Force intend for users access information from a centralized point of entry through the GCSS-AF-hosted Air Force Portal.
