Inmarsat and Spectra Group UK have unveiled their joint L-TAC VHF offering that uses Inmarsat’s L-TAC service for satellite-connected UHF tactical radio communications and the Spectra Slingshot converter and antenna kit for access to the L-TAC network.
The new service is intended to aid during emergencies as well as combat communications by providing interoperability between radio systems used by civilian, police and military forces, Inmarsat said Wednesday.
“While they may all be using different radio types and frequency bands with L-TAC, they can interconnect with each other without the current need for a retransmission facility,” said Andy Start, president of Inmarsat Global Government.
With the Slingshot VHF adapter variants for both military band (58 to 88 MHz) and civil commercial band (144 to 174 MHz), L-TAC VHF will work to increase the radios’ communications range and terrestrial coverage.
Inmarsat said these features are made to be relevant during civil emergencies and other major incidents.
