IBM subsidiary SoftLayer has released its Direct Link solution to provide a dedicated network connection between an enterprise’s IT infrastructure and SoftLayer’s private network and cloud platform through 18 global points of presence.
The technology is intended enable opportunities for hybrid cloud tools to accommodate a variety of business workloads, IBM said Tuesday.
“The power of a company’s private infrastructure and internal applications increases exponentially when they are able to scale out onto the cloud,” said Matt Chilek, chief technology officer at SoftLayer.
According to IBM, SoftLayer’s PoPs are located at the co-location facilities of its partners, including Equinix, Terremark and TelecityGroup.
Direct Link is designed to address issues with network performance, data movement and infrastructure access control by foregoing the public Internet when connecting to the cloud, the company said.
