IBM has partnered with Ashghal, Qatar’s public works authority, to implement a new road and drainage network in the country in an effort to leverage enterprise asset management tools for operations and maintenance as part of the “Qatar National Vision 2030.”
IBM said Wednesday that the company and authority aim to boost safety, service quality and environmental sustainability by enabling quick assessment and response to reported infrastructure defects or incidents.
“Building a smarter infrastructure is the foundation to establishing a smarter economy,” said Amr Refaat, general manager of IBM Middle East and Pakistan.
“The roll out of the enterprise asset management solution is a key demonstration of how Ashghal is already executing on Qatar’s journey to a smarter economy leveraging Smart City concepts and enhancing citizen services.”
The new system, based on the IBM Maximo Asset Management software, will be integrated with Ashghal’s current customer relationship management and enterprise resource planning systems to develop a centralized enterprise information and asset management system.
Other features include mobile tools for requirements planning, resource and personnel management and a geographic information system for locating and tracking assets.
“Designed with a focus on customer centricity, the solution will help Ashghal to advance its asset management services with the organisation’s overall business goals through a system that will guarantee lower asset failure frequency and ensure timely maintenance,” said Nasser bin Ali Al Mawlawi, Ashghal president.
