cyberGeneral Electric has purchased Canadian company Wurldtech for an undisclosed amount in an effort to help better protect operation technology networks, ETF Daily News reported today.

Tom Sandford writes that the move has GE, a technology development company usually known for its appliances and jet engines, moving into the realm of cyberattack protection.

“The world of OT security needs to be foundationally different from traditional IT protection systems,” said GE software executive Bill Ruh.

The partnership will also allow GE to take advantage of the growing need for competent internet security providers in an industry that is expected to grow 50 percent by 2016.

Wurldtech provides GE with their new “Operational Technology security,” which they expect will help GE in developing a cyberattack protection plan for their technology.
