Finmeccanica’s Selex ES business unit has opened a cyber defense center in central Italy in a move to expand its cybersecurity offerings for government and commercial clients, Defense News reported Sunday.
Tom Kington writes Selex ES managers are expecting the cyber monitoring center to help increase Finmeccanica’s annual cyber revenue by 12-13 percent.
Selex ES also intends to participate in the Italian government’s planned Computer Emergency Response Team through the new facility at Chieti in the Abruzzo region, according to the report.
Andrea Biraghi, head of the center, told Defense News the Abruzzo region has been a center for cybersecurity due to various cyber programs put on by a local university.
The company’s cybersecurity services leverage a computer technology with 310 Teraflops of capacity, the report says.
Kington writes the center’s open source intelligence division will use the computer system to monitor Internet traffic and detect cyberattacks.
