Exelis-logo, ExecutiveMosaicExelis has won a $9.6 million contract to develop an air traffic control system for Saudi Arabia’s national guard under a foreign military sales agreement with the U.S. Air Force, Military & Aerospace Electronics reported Wednesday.

John Keller writes Exelis’ surveillance and reconnaissance systems segment will provide its ground control approach system to the Saudi national guard at Khashm al-An airfield, which is located near Riyadh.

The airport surveillance radar works to detect targets within up to 30 nautical miles around the airspace, according to the report.

The Khashm al-An airfield is being built to accommodate attack helicopters, light attack and reconnaissance helicopters, utility helicopters and fixed-wing aircraft.

Exelis will perform work in Saudi Arabia through 2024.
