The General Services Administration this week sought to move forward with the consolidation of the Department of Homeland Security into its new headquarters in southeast Washington, Federal Times reported Wednesday.
Andy Medici writes the agency’s consolidation had been postponed due to congressional budget cuts, but now has a $140 million contract to start construction of the new main office.
According to the Federal Times, DHS will shift all secretary and headquarter administrative functions to the “Center Building” to be located on St. Elizabeth’s campus.
The building is set to be finished in 2017, marking the completion of the next phase in DHS consolidation, the Federal Times said.
The first phase of the consolidation gave the U.S. Coast Guard new offices and was completed last year.
