Catherine Engelbert, a 28-year Deloitte veteran, has been appointed to succeed Gregory Weaver as chairman and CEO of the company’s auditing subsidiary Deloitte & Touche LLP.
Weaver intends to retire from the company in the fall after a four-decade career, Deloitte said Thursday.
“As the leader of our audit practice, Cathy will guide our efforts to innovate audit service delivery as we lead the profession to further strengthen the quality of financial reporting for the investing public,” said Deloitte CEO Joseph Echevarria.
Engelbert, a certified public accountant, is a member of the firm’s board committee for strategic investment, finance and audit.
Her career has included partner roles at Deloitte as well as at several pharmaceutical and life sciences companies.
“I am honored and excited to build upon Deloitte’s leading position in audit quality,†said Engelbert.
“We will continue to invest in innovation to transform the audit process, with the goals of providing the highest quality audits and responding to the changing needs of the capital markets,” she added.
She earned her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Lehigh University, where she currently serves as accounting advisory board member.
